SANDWICH — Alan D. MacKay, 64, of Sandwich, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at
his home.
Born in Needham, the son of the late Donald W. and Marion A. (Damrell)
MacKay, he was a graduate of Needham High School and a Navy veteran.
He retired in 2007 from the town of Sandwich Engineering Department where
he had been employed for over 20 years. He was instrumental in the
rebuilding of the boardwalk, and was active in the planning of "Boardwalk
Days" and continued with its upkeep following his retirement.
He loved gardening, riding his motorcycle and playing softball on the
"old-timer's" league. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and for the
past four years he and his wife enjoyed wintering in Venice, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta (Kallett) MacKay of Sandwich; and
three daughters, Amy Reichel of Forest Hills, N.Y., Jill Block of New
York, N.Y., and Alison and her husband Brett Pouliot of Ashburn, Va. Also
surviving are four granddaughters, Sara and Marisa Reichel, and Claire and
Sophie Pouiliot; a brother, Roderick and his wife Marie MacKay of
Sandwich; and a sister, Meredith and her husband Gerry Corkum of
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 4 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at
Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich. Private burial will
be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
