Needham High School Class of 1964 |
Art Arnold
1946 - 2021
Arthur R. Arnold (74) of Cherry Hill,
NJ passed away on July 6, 2021 at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in
Washington Township. Art was the cherished husband of Patricia (Blair)
Arnold with whom he shared forty-nine wonderful years. He was the
loving father of Matthew (Jennifer), Elizabeth (Larry Legg), and David
(Cristin), and the beloved grandfather of Seamus, Zoey, and Logan.
Art was born in Boston,
Massachusetts to the late Robert and Florence (Wilson) Arnold. He grew
up in Needham, Massachusetts and graduated NHS Class of ’64. He is
remembered by his classmates as being a friendly student and a
talented gymnast. Art was a member of the Model U.N. Club. In
addition, he was an Eagle Scout and participated in several Boy Scout
Jamborees around the country. While at Salem (MA) State University,
Art considered his two great accomplishments to be starting a radio
station, WSSC, and meeting his future wife, Patty. He served in the
Vietnam War as a military policeman, and then made a career in sales.
He was the Eastern National Sales Manager for Hunt Manufacturing
Company where he was employed for twenty-eight years before starting
his own company, Arnold Sales. He retired in 2016.
His hobbies included listening
to music, old time radio, and short wave radio, but his real passion
was amateur radio. His call sign was N2CPR. He was a long-time member
of the South Jersey Radio Association. He served on their board of
directors and acted as a net control operator on a weekly basis. He
also belonged to the Audubon Amateur Radio Club. Art held an active
volunteer role with the Camden County Office of Emergency Management.
He was instrumental in facilitating radio communications for Amateur
Radio Emergency Services (ARES) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency
Services (RACES). He was a volunteer member of Community Emergency
Response Team (CERT) and worked to provide support for Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). For many years Art contributed his
radio skills to the Multiple Sclerosis Organization. He ran
communications for the MS 150 City to Shore bike ride, and also
several walks and mud-runs.
A sports lover, Art especially
enjoyed coaching baseball and soccer when his children were younger.
He was proud to say that he visited all the major league baseball
parks across the country. Art was a trivia buff with an extensive
general knowledge. Although he was a 007 James Bond movie fan, he also
loved a tear jerker flick on the Hallmark channel. He loved popcorn,
whole belly fried clams, cheese steaks, and he made a mean tuna
casserole. Art was quite a talker, and he will be remembered by his
friends for his numerous jokes and repetitive stories. Art dearly
loved his grandchildren, and they will miss Pop Pop reading them
stories and doing silly impersonations.
Relatives and friends are
invited to his Visitation on Thursday evening, July 29th from 6:00 -
8:00 PM and again on Friday morning, July 30th from 10:00 - 11:00 AM
at the HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 1816 Haddonfield-Berlin Road (Route 561),
Cherry Hill, NJ where His Memorial Service will be held Friday
beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place privately at a later
date. Memorial donations in honor of Arthur Arnold may be made to
